Fishkeeping: Day 1

Today we received a nice visit from Stephanie who brought along her water testing kit. Together we tested to see the water to see where we were at with the quality of the water.

We were able to determine the following levels for the water:
  • pH: 7.6
  • Ammonia: 1.0 mg/l
  • Nitrate: 0 mg/l
  • Nitrite: 0 mg/l
  • Temperature: 79 degrees
pH: 7.6 mg/l Ammonia: 1.0 mg/l
Nitrite: 0 mg/l Nitrate: 0 mg/l
We actually need the levels to be at:

  • pH: 7
  • Ammonia: 0 mg/l
  • Nitrate: 0 mg/l
  • Nitrite: 0 mg/l
  • Temperature: 77 degrees
This means the pH and Ammonia levels were high so we put in 2 scoops of pH 7.0,10 ml of  special ammonia remover, and a handful of aquarium salt.. Stephanie recommended we check the tank every day until the chemical levels are where they need to be for us to put in the fish. Until then it is a waiting game.
